US manufacturer to supply tires for NASA Artemis missions planned from 2028
Akron, Ohio – Goodyear has been selected to supply tires for Lunar Outpost's Pegasus lunar terrain vehicle (LTV), which is expected to support astronaut missions under NASA's Artemis programme beginning in 2028.
The vehicle is being developed for operations at the moon's south pole, where it will enable astronauts to travel longer distances and carry out scientific exploration in extreme conditions, said Goodyear 3 June.
The Akron tire maker said it lunar tires are built to meet this challenge, engineered to withstand “extreme temperature swings, rocky surfaces and low-gravity conditions.”
The Pegasus programme is led by Lunar Outpost in partnership with General Motors, Goodyear and Leidos.
Goodyear said the project builds on its experience developing tires for extreme operating environments both on Earth and in space.
