French group unveils new Michelin Primacy 5 energy, Michelin Pilot Sport 5 energy for all vehicle types
Clermont-Ferrand, France – Michelin has introduced two new summer tires which it says extend electric vehicle range and have improved performance compared to their predecessor.
Michelin Primacy 5 energy and Michelin Pilo Sport 5 energy “combine high performance, longevity and energy efficiency for internal combustion, hybrid or fully electric vehicles,” said Michelin 20 March.
With a “triple A” rating for efficiency, wet grip and noise, Michelin Primacy 5 energy is claimed to deliver up to 10% additional driving range for electric vehicles compared to its competitors.
The tire also reduces fuel consumption by up to 6% compared to its predecessor, providing CO2 emission cuts as well as consumer savings.
Furthermore, it delivers braking distances of up to 8% shorter than its predecessor, both when new and worn to 2 mm tread depth, said Michelin.
The tire features “energy passive 2.0 technology,” which according to Michelin incorporates “functionalised elastomers, new resins and an optimised architecture,” to deliver “best mileage in its European segment.”
Citing independent tests, Michelin said the tire provides “significantly longer lifespan than leading competitors, lasting up to 40% longer in comparable conditions.”
The tire is available on the market in 33 sizes from 16-19 inches.
Michelin Pilot Sport 5 energy, meanwhile, delivers “motorsport-derived performance” with A-rated rolling resistance and endurance at sustained speeds of 300 km/h, according to Michelin.
Developed with Michelin’s “dynamic response technology” and a new ‘adaptive grip compound’, the tire is claimed to deliver “precise handling and superior grip in both wet and dry conditions.”
Michelin said its ‘MaxTouch Technology’, which optimises contact patch with road, helps improve wear while an ‘energy passive compound’ on the shoulders reduces rolling resistance to “unprecedented levels for a sport tire.”
The tire is claimed to “significantly outperforms key competitors in longevity tests” and holds an A rating for rolling resistance.
It is now available in 19 sizes from 19-21 inches.
Michelin said the new offerings ‘reinforce’ its commitment to summer tires, which it said account for 80% of global annual tire sales.
“These innovations reflect a profound transformation in mobility. Today’s tires must combine performance, longevity and energy efficiency while supporting the transition to electrified vehicles,” said Jean-Claude Pats, automobile and two-wheel business line director.
