Collaborating with KIIT to integrate tire science, design and manufacturing into academic curriculum
New Delhi – Apollo Tyres has entered a strategic collaboration with the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Bhubaneshwar, to introduce what it described as “first-of-its-kind” specialised elective/module on tire technology for engineering students.
Announced 18 Nov, the agreement brings together a tire maker and a technical university to integrate tire “science, design and manufacturing” into an academic curriculum for the first time in the country.
Under the partnership, Apollo will contribute to syllabus development, study material and course content to ensure alignment with current industry practices and technological requirements.
“This strategic collaboration marks a significant milestone for the Indian automotive sector,” said R Mahalakshmi, chief human resources officer at Apollo Tyres.
“By bringing tire technology into mainstream engineering education for the first time, we aim to equip young engineers with future-ready skills and real-world exposure.”
The students, she said, will gain experience through internships and on-site training at Apollo’s facilities, covering design, manufacturing and testing.
Also commenting, Prof (Dr) Saranjit Singh, vice chancellor of KIIT-DU, said the partnership reflects the need for closer cooperation between industry and universities “in the fast-growing demand for a market-ready workforce.”
The “co-branded” specialisation in tire technology would give students “a new scope for innovation and edge over others.”
