Products manufactured from “recycled fluorine” at group’s production plant in Piedmont, Italy
Dusseldorf, Germany – Syensqo, formerly part of Solvay, has launched several “circular content certified” fluoroelastomers and lubricants fluids manufactured at its Spinetta Marengo plant in Piedmont, Italy.
The certified products include up to 29% post-industrial recycled (PIR) hydrofluoric acid (HF) allocated via a mass-balance system, said Syensqo 13 Oct.
The materials, derived from fluorspar, deliver properties such as resistance to heat and chemicals or long-lasting lubrication for “highly specialised applications”.
Fluorspar is listed as a critical mineral in both the US Energy Act and the EU Critical Raw Materials Act, which sets a target of sourcing at least 25% of annual consumption from domestic recycling by 2030.
By recovering fluorine from production waste within Spinetta Marengo, Syensqo said it has shortened the supply chain, eliminating stages such as external mining, refining or hydrofluoric acid production elsewhere.
This approach is designed to increase supply chain resilience and reduce exposure to geopolitical, trade, and ESG-related risks, it added.
The certified portfolio includes Tecnoflon FKM and FFKM elastomers and Fomblin M lubricant fluids, demand for which is growing according to Syensqo.
In particular, the products are used in semiconductors, O-rings and seals for dry etch and deposition processes, and in automotive engines, batteries, transmissions, gaskets, and lubricants.
Syensqo said the products deliver advance circular economy goals "without compromising performance."
