Hemplizit can partially replace carbon black or silica in rubber compounding
Hamburg, Germany – Biesterfeld has received distribution rights for biobased rubber filler Hemplizit across Europe, the German distributor announced 26 June.
Manufactured by Solid Plant, the filler material is a plant-based, chemically unmodified product, made from hemp shives, and can be integrated into existing rubber compounds such as butyl innerliner compounds (BIIR) and styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR).
The use of the material, according to Biesterfeld, can reduce the proportion of carbon black or silica by up to 50%, thereby lowering the overall CO2 footprint of the compounding process.
The REACH-compliant material is described as “high in hemicellulose content” with a “structured nature” that helps it integrate into the rubber matrix.
The product is being offered in two grades HPE 30 and HPE 50.
Biesterfeld said potential applications for Hemplizit include conveyor belts, tire innerliners, shoe soles, and seals.
