Mothballed Terre Haute facility is scheduled to restart production in early 2023
Boulder, Colorado – US waste tire recycler Bolder Industries Inc. has acquired the former Pyrolyx facility in Terre Haute, Indiana, the company has announced.
Bolder said it intended to retrofit the 66,000-square-foot site, which has been idled since March 2020, with proprietary technology.
The initial phase of the project will involve a $40 million (€35 million) investment and is expected to be completed in early 2023.
Once operational, the first phase will create 40 new jobs and is estimated to divert approximately three million tires from landfill or burning.
The move will increase Bolder’s production three-fold, according to the company's 7 Dec announcement.
Liberty Tire Recycling will supply end-of-life tires as feedstock to the facility.
"The Terre Haute facility is in an excellent location and has great elements that complement our proprietary technology and process,” said Tony Wibbeler, Bolder Industries CEO.
The purchase, he added, enables Bolder to expand capacity to meet current customer demand and offers scope for future growth.
Bolder’s technology converts end-of-life tires into sustainable carbon black, process oil, steel and power.
The company currently operates a tire-shredding and pyrolysis facility in Maryville, Missouri, and aims to increase the capacity of the facility by 250% by first quarter 2022.
In October, the recycler raised $80 million in equity and an additional $100 million in committed project-level funding for its scale-up plans.
At the time, the company signalled “immediate plans” for additional product facilities in the US, Europe, and other parts of the world.
