Purchase gives access to heat-resistant silicone coated fabrics
Trelleborg, Sweden – Trelleborg Industrial Solutions has acquired the coated fabrics business of US-based Alpha Engineered Composites as part of a move to strengthen its position in niche markets.
The acquisition, the terms of which were not disclosed, gives access to heat-resistant silicone coated fabrics, allowing the group to enter new markets.
The polymer coated fabrics are used in niche applications such as train bellows, the aerospace industry and engineered industrial products, said Trelleborg upon completion of the deal 30 Dec 2021.
The purchase includes all production equipment, customer base and intellectual property rights of the unit, which reported sales of SEK90 million (€8.7 million).
“The acquired assets and accompanying solid customer base complement our product portfolio very well,” said Jean-Paul Mindermann, president of the Trelleborg Industrial Solutions business area.
The move will give Trelleborg full access to several brands such as Fairprene, which according to Mindermann has been “well-established for 50 years.”
“The acquisition is a good example of how the Trelleborg Industrial Solutions business area is climbing the value ladder to create better and larger business opportunities,” he added.
