Rubber prices hit new record in India, trend is upwards
Kochi, India - Spot RSS4 rubber in Kochi, India touched Rs 85 / kg on Tuesday, an all-time high. The high price is reflected in markets around the world, as prices approach yet another round of record highs. Records were last set in early February this year.
In Tokyo the benchmark 6-month futures prices closed at 261.1 yen/kilo on Tuesday, a few points off the record close of 267.5 set on 3 Feb. Futures contracts are currently trading at around 255 ¥/kg (around $2.16).
In Singapore RSS3 spot is trading at around 215 US cents/kg some 5 points lower than the record figure of 220 achieved in early February, while the futures contracts closed around 218 US cents/kg, compared with around 220 during Feb. Meanwhile there was no trading at all in RSS1, but the spot price closed at 350.3 Sing cents/kg, just 1.5 percent off the early-Feb highs, while the 12-month contract closed at a nominal price of 355.25 Sing cents/kg (US$2.20).
