Yokohama plans closer ties with NR processors to secure supplies
Singapore - Yokohama Rubber Co is reportedly building its presence in the NR processing sector in a bid to control purchasing costs and to secure supplies in case of a shortage, according to a lengthy report on Dow Jones newswire.
The report quotes Keiichi Sekiya, general manager of Yokohama's corporate purchasing and strategic sourcing unit as saying. "Basically we want to be closer to the (rubber) plantation people. It doesn't mean we want to get into the plantation business."
The report explained that Yokohama began building ties with the rubber processing sector in Thailand and elsewhere in South East Asia three years ago. The company has borrowed a number of machines that convert cup lump and other Hevea products into bales and sheets of rubber and is learning about the process of converting tree products into materials for use in tyre factories. The report suggested that Yokohama may work with processors to improve their processes.
