Rubber prices smash through ¥300/kg mark
Singapore - Natural rubber prices continued their upward thrust on Thursday, pushing prices yet higher in global markets.
In Tokyo the benchmark 6-month futures prices closed at 307.1 yen/kilo ($2.74) on Thursday, up sharply on the previous day's close. Futures contracts are currently trading at around 304 ¥/kg (around $2.71).
In Singapore prices also jumped upwards. RSS3 spot is trading at around 260 US cents/kg, up over 3 cents from yesterday's highs. Futures contracts were trading at similar levels. Meanwhile there was no trading at all in RSS1, but the spot price closed almost 414 Sing cents/kg, (US$2.62).
Spot RSS4 rubber in Kottayam, India jumped to Rs 106 / kg ($2.31) on Thursday, yet another all-time high in India. Growers and dealers were said to be expecting the price to break rise further, with July futures contracts exceeding Rs110.
The Malaysian Rubber Board official physical seller price for tyre-grade SMR 20 rose 6.0 sen to 837.0 sen per kg ($2.30) from Wednesday's 831.0 sen per kg.
