EU heavy vehicle registrations up sharply
Brussels - Registrations of commercial vehicles in the EU during April 2006 were up sharply over the equivalent figure from a year ago. Only light commercial vehicles numbers were down, while heavy truck registrations were up by over 83 percent. Cumulative sales are also strong, with heavy truck sales up by over 20 percent in the first four months of the year.
The data, from ACEA said heavy truck sales were up strongly because of new legislation on digital tachographs on 1st of May, which has pushed fleet operators to bring their purchases forward. Rises in individual markets reached levels as high as +249% in Ireland. Only two countries reported losses: Belgium (-34%) and Greece (-15.3%).
