Bridgestone planning a new factory in Europe
Brussels -Â Bridgestone has confirmed that it is planning a new tyre factory in Europe, with production likely to begin in two to three years.
A Bridgestone spokesman confirmed that the company is in the late stages of selecting a site for a new factory. He implied it was likely to be for tyres, but declined to give say whether it was for car or truck tyres, or some other product. He also said it was impossible to give a timescale, but he hoped to be able to make an announcement "soon."
The spokesman confirmed that the company is now examining bids from the various short-listed sites and will select one of the locations in due course. He declined to name any other locations that might be bidding for the factory.
However, a report in Polish Newspaper Puls Biznesu (Business Pulse) did give a few details. The town of Stargard Szczecinski has put in a bid which it hopes will win the site selection decision. The bid involves an investment by Bridgestone of between €250 million and €300 million and is expected to create 800 direct and a further 800 indirect jobs.
Stargard Szczecinski is in the North-west part of Poland, about 40 km from the German border and 36 kilometres from the Baltic Port of Szczecin. The town has a population of 74 000
