WRAP report from UK government agency praises retreading
Bambury, UK - Tyre retreading saved the United Kingdom nearly 102 million litres of oil in 2005, according to a report, "Retreading: Safety, Environment, Economy," issued by the Banbury-based Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP).
The report quotes the US Tire Retread Information Bureau and the UK's Retread Manufacturers Association as to the prevalence, safety, quality, cost savings and environmental benefits of retreads.
"Unfortunately, retreads have a bad reputation," the report states. "They do not deserve it. But, in many cases, it is perpetuated by new tyre distributors selling low-cost imports that compete with retreads."
WRAP is a not-for-profit UK organisation, supported in large part by UK government funding, whose main goal is to promote stable, efficient markets for recycled materials and products.
