'Exploding frogs' featured in NHTSA tyre safety TV ad
Washington DC - Hot summer roads can cause tyres to blow out without proper maintenance, according to a new tyre safety advertisement released across the US to television stations by the US-based National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Using the image of frogs exploding on the road, the ad states: “The asphalt may not get hot enough to do this, but it can cause your tyres to blow out.â€
The ad urges motorists to check their tyres' tread depths and pressures regularly to prevent summer tyre failure. NHTSA estimates that tyre failures cause vehicle accidents resulting in 660 fatalities and 33 000 injuries annually in the US.
