ERJ staff report (TB)
White, Georgia -- Toyo Tire North America Manufacturing Inc. recently produced its 5-millionth tyre at its four-year-old plant in White.
The factory's annual capacity is 2.5 million tyres, with plans to install new machines and expand production capabilities as early as this summer, the tyre maker said.
Annual output at the plant is projected to reach 4 million tyres by 2012.
Open since December 2005, an expansion project was completed last year that doubled the facility's physical size to about 1.72 million square feet.
The White factory uses Toyo's automated and proprietary Advanced Tire Operation Module production system.
“North America continues to be the most important market for both the Toyo Tires and Nitto brands,†said Kenji Nakakura, president and CEO of parent Toyo Tire & Rubber Co. Ltd, adding that the company will continue to invest in the U.S.
Among the products made at the plant are: Toyo Proxes ST II and 4; Toyo Open Country M/T and A/T; Nitto Grappler, NT 420S and NT 555.
