ExxonMobil elastomer gains food contact approval in Japan

Houston, Texas - ExxonMobil Chemical's Vistamaxx propylene-based elastomer has been approved for food contact applications, such as flexible and rigid food packaging, by the Japan Hygienic Olefin and Styrene Plastics Association (JHOSPA).
The material offers a unique combination of high elasticity, softness, toughness, flexibility and clarity, claims ExonMobil Chemicals in a 25 Oct announceemnt. They are made using the firm's proprietary Exxpol metallocene technology, it added.
The grades, Vistamaxx 3000, 3020FL, 3980 FL, 6102, 6102FL, 6202 and 6202FL, have been approved for food contact, including liquor and aqueous/acid food, providing the temperature does not exceed 100 deg C (212 deg F).
"The versatile benefits of Vistamaxx, the ease with which it can be processed and its compatibility with a wide range of polymers, including polyethylene and polypropylene, is inspiring customers to deliver innovative, cost effective food packaging solutions," said Kazuhiro Matsukawa, Japan market developer, ExxonMobil Chemical.
