Nokian launches "world's first tractor tire with siping"
ERJ staff report (TP)
Nokian, Finland – Nokian Heavy Tyres is introducing a new winter contracting tire for winter road maintenance and snow clearing – claiming it is the world’s first tractor tire with siping.
The Hakkapeliitta TRI introduces new technologies and in the first phase the size selection covers six sizes (three pairs) coming in Q4/2014, with an addition of three sizes coming in Q1/2015. Key markets focus mainly on Nordic countries, central Europe’s alpine region and North America.
The firm is expanding its Hakkapeliitta series to heavier machines and said the TRI test results speak for themselves. Compared to already high traction levels of the TRI2 the Hakkapeliitta TRI has 25 percent more grip on ice and 23 percent more grip on snow. This “significant” improvement has been proven by extensive field testing from real end users.
The tire has a large amount of gripping edges both in rolling and lateral direction and Nokian said “it is the world’s first tractor tire with siping”. It also has five percent lower rolling resistance than the “industry leader” Nokian TRI2.
