Chinese delegation profiles Russia's rubber industry
ERJ staff report (DS)
Beijing / Moscow -- Following a study visit to Russia, the Chinese Rubber Industry Association has published a long report on the rubber industry in Russia.
CRIA said the main purpose of the visit was to research the production and export position of the Russian synthetic rubber industry; the Russian polyisoprene industry and the Russian tyre industry, through a visit to the Yaroslavl tyre factory. The Chinese delegation was also looking for co-operation opportunities.
A key element of the visit was a meeting with Russia's Evrokhim, set up in 1992. They found that Russian polyisoprene does not use excessive amonts of energy.
Another visit was to Sibur (described as Xi Buer in the report) and the report gives detailed production capacity of the Sibur synthetic rubber operations, and notes that Sibur welcomed the opportunity to co-operate with Chinese rubber makers and tyre companies.
During a visit to Yaroslavl tyre factory, the delegation saw a new all-steel radial truck tyre line due to come on stream in 2012, using a high degree of automation.
The visit coincided with the Automechanika Moscow exhibition and the Moscow International Motor Show.
Russian hosts heard that China is developing isoprene monomer production, with capacity expected to be 30 million tonnes in the next few years. The delegates heard that China expects actively to develop its capability to make synthetic polyisoprene.
