CSR Times' seismic dampers boost Aizhai's super-large suspension bridge

Beijing -- The super-large suspension bridge in Aizhai, Xiangxi, China, has recently been opened to traffic. Zhuzhou CSR Times Electric Co. Ltd provided all dampers used to enhance the bridge's safety and wind-resistant and seismic properties.

The Aizhai bridge is 1176 meters in length and 350 meters in height. The suspension bridge currently has the world's largest canyon span, CSR said in a 19 April news release.

Its large span and steep relief led to the low rigidity of the bridge, making it vibrate violently under load. Setting up seismic dampers on both ends of the steel truss girder can effectively resist wind and earthquake, CSR said.

Viscous dampers are high-tech and sophisticated bridge products well recognised in road and railway industries. The project's characteristics of large tonnage and large displacement confronted CSR Times with diverse challenges in design, processing and assembling.

CSR said that facing a short delivery period it conducted accurate calculation and analysis of the product's mechanical property and internal fluid through the independently developed calculation program and advanced finite element analysis software, thus greatly shortening the development period.

The results of the third-party product test and ultra-high-pressure test of Beijing University of Technology show CSR Times' viscous dampers can fully meet the basic properties and useful life of the bridge, and are absolutely safe even under ultra-high loan up to twice the maximum designed damping force, the Chinese company claims.
