Goodyear receives CIO 100 Award
ERJ staff report (TB)
Akron, Ohio -- CIO magazine has named Goodyear one of the 2012 winners of its CIO 100 award, recognising 100 companies that excel with innovation in information technology (IT) to deliver business value.
“Our 2012 winners are an outstanding example of the transformative power of IT to drive everything from revenue growth to competitive advantage,†said Maryfran Johnson, editor in chief of CIO magazine, as quoted in a press release by Goodyear.
According CIO's website, each of the 300-plus applications was reviewed by two members of the judging panel to create the 100 list. Goodyear goes on to explain that judging panel is made up of CIO editorial staff, former CIOs and industry experts.
CIO recognised Goodyear's “Project Eaglean†initiative that was launched in 2008 to align all of Goodyear's European legal entities. The company also hoped to adapt to differing business and market environments as they changed and grew.
CIO explains that by doing this, the Akron-based tyre maker created a simpler and more standardised system that spanned the 110 countries in which Goodyear does business, while reducing back-office processes and other paperwork in all facets of business. The working relationship between IT and business with Project Eaglean saved Goodyear $91 million a year, CIO reported.
“Winning the CIO 100 award is tremendous recognition for the success of our multi-year project, which has aligned all of the company's operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa on a common business platform,†said Jim McKinnon, Goodyear vice president and chief information officer.
“This initiative was a collaborative effort involving an integrated business and IT team, and it has resulted in greater operational efficiency and significant cost savings,†said Horst Ebert, IT director for Europe, Middle East and Africa. “We introduced the latest technology while simplifying and standardising business processes across many countries.â€
Goodyear is no stranger to the CIO 100 awards, winning four other times in the past decade-in 2007, 2006, 2003, 2002, according the CIO website.
The magazine-part of CXO Media Inc., a subsidiary of IDG Enterprise-provides news and analysis on IT trends and the role it plays in business for leaders in the IT community.
