Tie-bar-less electric machine to mould large silicone component without secondary trimming
Schwertberg, Austria – Engel is to demonstrate the production of a large liquid silicone rubber (LSR) seal using its tie-bar-less electric injection moulding technology at Fakuma 2026, taking place in Friedrichshafen, Germany 12-16 Oct.
The Austrian machinery maker will use its "victory electric 1565/220" to mould a 484mm by 202mm LSR seal for an inverter component, Engel announced 3 Sept.
The model, Engel said, provides 2,200kN of clamping force and will produce the component with a cycle time of around 70 seconds.
According to Engel, the tie-bar-less configuration distributes clamping force evenly across the mould, helping prevent the low-viscosity LSR from forming flash.
This allows the seal to be produced without subsequent trimming or reworking.
The machine will be using a two-component LSR from Shin-Etsu, with mould technology supplied by ACH Solution.
An Engel robot removes the component while it is still hot as part of the automated process.
Engel said the system also monitors feed pressure to identify changes in material viscosity or batch quality, while process controls compensate for viscosity variations during moulding.
