Subsidiary Nippon Polyurethane Industry has been producing TDI and TDI-related products since 1962
Tokyo – Tosoh Corp. is scheduled to cease producing and selling toluene diisocyanate (TDI) and TDI-related products effective April 2023, the Japanese supplier has announced.
The decision comes despite ‘continuous measures to improve profitability,’ said Tosoh in a 7 Oct statement.
“The environment surrounding this business has become increasingly severe in recent years, and there are no prospects for improvement,” the statement added.
Nippon Polyurethane Industry Co. Ltd has been producing TDI and TDI-related products – Including monomeric TDI and TDI derivatives such as trimmers, adhesives, and thermosetting resins – at its plant located in Tosoh’s Nanyo Complex since 1962.
In October 2014, Nippon Polyurethane Industry merged with Tosoh, and TDI production shifted to Tosoh’s management in the same year.
The company currently has a production capacity of 25 kilotonnes per year.
TDI is a key chemical ingredients used in the manufacture of flexible polyurethane foam.
