Project to establish "worlds’ first carbon-neutral bicycle tire production facility"
Brembate, Italy – Italian bicycle tire manufacturer Vittoria Group is building a new ‘state-of-the-art’ production factory in Thailand to increase production capacity for 'premium bicycle tires'.
The $20 million (€17 million) investment will see the Lion Tyres Thailand (LTT) factory premises expand from 36.000 to 52.000 square metres in the Bangpoo industrial district, near the current LTT headquarters, said Vittoria in a recent statement.
Set for operation by the end of 2022, the plant will employ 400 people and will double Vittoria’s production capacity “over the coming years”, said the Italian manufacturer 23 Sept.
According to Vittoria, the greenfield plant is designed with sustainability in mind and will be the ‘first carbon-neutral factory in bicycle tire industry’.
Among other measures, the site will use solar panels, intelligent climate control, bio & recycled materials and electrical curing, to enhance sustainability.
In addition to the production area, the new site will also host product testing and research units to develop technologies for “the most advanced bicycle tires,” Vittoria said.
Vittoria Group established presence in Thailand in 1988 under the LTT and its operations in the country are currently spread over five units in Bangkok and Rayong.
The units include a graphene compound research & production facility and a “unique 4C extruder”, which Vittoria says is able to merge four compounds in one single bicycle tire tread.
