New equipment to support capacity expansion for biopharmaceutical processing, medical device and topical blend solutions
Wilmington, Delaware – DuPont has started new medical elastomers mixers at its healthcare industries materials site (HIMS) in Hemlock, Michigan, the company announced 29 Sept.
The investment in the new mixers is in response to increased demand for the company’s silicone-based Liveo healthcare solutions and will expand in-house medical-grade silicone elastomer (liquid silicone rubber and high consistency rubber) manufacturing capabilities, DuPont said.
With the new mixers, DuPont also expects to expand its 'speciality' medical elastomer product lines along the value chain.
Other areas of growth will include the in-house production of pharmaceutical tubing dedicated to biopharmaceutical processing, and of medical devices and topical blends.
The 8,000-square-foot site expansion will create six additional jobs.
Earlier in September, DuPont announced that it was expanding manufacturing capacity and capabilities for its Liveo healthcare solutions.
As part of the expansion plan, the Michigan healthcare site will also be equipped with a new over-moulded assembly (OMA) press by November, to improve high-purity fluid transfer and biopharmaceutical processes.
