Waluj greenfield manufacturing facility to produce 30ktpa of off-highway tires
Seregno, Italy – Trial production has started at Balkrishna Tyres' (BKT) new “state-of the-art” tire production facility in Waluj, in the Indian state of Maharashtra.
The $56 million (€48 million) plant will produce 30 kilotonnes per annum of off-highway tires once fully operational, BKT announced in a 28 Sept statement.
The new facility will employ 500 people at full capacity and will manufacture medium- and small-diameter tires, designed for machinery operating in the agricultural and industrial industries.
The Indian tire maker said the new plant was of strategic importance for the manufacturer, as it both increased production and improved efficiency.
Spanning over 22 acres of land, the greenfield facility is 5km from BKT’s existing production plant in Waluj, which has been in operation since 1987.
According to BKT, the new site employs ‘cutting-technology’ both in terms of structural and mechanical processes.
In addition to the new plant, BKT operates four other tire manufacturing facilities in India, including one in Maharashtra, two in Rajasthan and one in Gujarat.
The tire maker ranks 37th in ERJ's 2020 Global Tire Report, with annual sales of $685 million.
