Celebrating 150th anniversary, German group is ‘systematically investing' in new technologies for environmentally friendly tires
Hanover, Germany – Continental AG intends to gradually switch to 100% sustainably produced materials in its tires by 2050 as part of its sustainability drive.
The German group, which celebrates its 150th anniversary on 8 Oct, said it was ‘systematically investing in R&D of new technologies, alternative materials and environmentally compatible production processes’ in order to make its tires more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.
“Tires are our passion. Our technological excellence has ensured safety, reliability, and sustainability for 150 years. We are proud of this,” said Christian Koetz, head of the Tires business in a 20 July statement.
“Our goal is to produce our entire product portfolio exclusively from sustainable materials in a climate-neutral way by 2050 at the latest,” he added.
As part of its "sustainable and responsible" corporate strategy, Conti said its efforts are centered around the topics of climate action, low-emission mobility, the circular economy, and sustainable supply chains.
Furthermore, Continental said it will continue its focus on the digitalisation of tires, in which it claims to be a pioneer.
“The company is continuing to expand the ecosystem of smart, digital solutions for Continental’s premium tires,” said the statement.
Here, Conti said it has a competitive advantage as “one of the world’s largest suppliers of electronics, sensor systems and software in the mobility industry.”
