Components manufacturer takes part in three development initiatives for smart, lightweight aircraft systems
Paris – Hutchinson SA has taken part in three French aviation technology programmes, spearheaded by the ministry of the ecological transition’s directorate general of civil aviation.
The projects, which started in 2020, are set for completion this year and involve developing new technologies for cabin design, engine sealing solutions and lightweighting.
The Cabin project, in collaboration with aircraft manufacturer Daher, is aimed at designing modular cabin interiors, Hutchinson said in a recent statement.
In this project,?Hutchinson?is responsible for developing and integrating the technologies for “thermo-acoustic comfort solutions” and a complete set of cabin fittings with integrated functions.???
Hutchinson is also working jointly with Airbus and Safran in Synapse project, developing a new generation of smart integrated solutions for engine sealing and isolation functions, said a 7 April statement.
The Synapse project is dedicated to the development of ultra high bypass ratio (UHBR) engines, which enable fuel savings of up to 10%, according to Hutchinson.
As part of this project, Hutchinson said it will develop smart integrated seals?with wear level monitoring as well as smart thermal protections?which enable the monitoring of the hot points of the engine.
The technologies, it said, will bring ‘maximum intelligence’ to improve the installation and maintenance of the engines.??
In its third project, Hutchinson will work with Airbus to create composite technologies to reduce the weight of structural parts.
Part of Airbus-led Sphinx project, the collaboration will aim to use advanced composite technologies to reduce the weight of the engine pylon structures, Hutchinson added.?
