Technology employed at "the most modern tire warehouse in the world" will double storage capacity
Vsevolozhsk, Russia – Nokian Tyres has officially opened its “ultra-modern” tire warehouse in Vsevolozhsk, which has been operational since the end of last year.
In a 17 June statement, Nokian said it held a ‘small event’ at the end of May to celebrate the opening of the warehouse, which it says “enables a high-tech loading and storage of tires.”
Spanning 17,000 square metres, the facility has automated storage capacity for 550,000 tires.
Together with Nokian’s old warehouse, the tire maker’s storage capacity stands at 1.6 million tires in Russia.
Nokian said it employed a “unique technology” at the warehouse to increase the storage capacity, improve warehouse logistics, and reduce time spent on receiving and shipping tires.
“What’s unique about the new automated warehouse is that all tires are stored vertically, without additional packaging, and the storage unit is a single tire, not a cage or a pallet,” explained Tatiana Budennaya, supply chain & procurement director, Nokian Tyres Russia.
The new technology, she said, allows increasing the storage capacity of the area by 2.3 times compared to the traditional method.
“Automation of the logistics complex is a necessary step in the development of the company,” said Andrei Pantioukhov, executive VP Russia and Asia and global marketing.
“We can state with confidence that we have the most modern tire warehouse in the world,” he went on to say.
The construction of the automated warehouse began in 2018 and was “finalised” in 2020, according to Nokian.
