"Transparent platform" looks to offer space for collaboration and amicable solutions
Singapore – The Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber (GPSNR) has introduced what it describes as the natural rubber (NR) industry’s first ever grievance mechanism.
The mechanism provides a platform to address complaints against members, while offering a “space for collaboration, improved relations and amicable and meaningful solutions,” GPSNR announced 15 June.
The process can be used by both members and non-members to raise concerns regarding a member’s violation of membership requirements or other guiding principles of the GPSNR.
According to the Singapore-based organistion, the mechanism “seeks to provide transparency and predictability in the process and requires resolutions to be reached in a timely manner.”
Particularly, it emphasises on finding “expedient and impartial” resolution for high-risk cases involving impact on communities or the environment.
As part of the process, a complaints panel is created, made up of volunteer members and an external expert to decide on whether, and what kind of, corrective actions are needed.
"The mechanism makes it possible for third parties to address issues with GPSNR members through an unbiased yet amicable process,” said GPSNR director Stefano Savi.
The focus of the process, he said, will be on finding solutions that work for everyone and provide both sides “a transparent platform for resolution and accountability.”
