Of the many available digital solutions, Rockwell here selects four that can have a particularly significant impact on the tire industry:
1 An MES (manufacturing execution system) can connect operations across plants and global business systems, allowing personnel to use real-time insights like work-in-process updates to make faster, smarter decisions in automotive plants. As tire mixes, consumer demand and workforces undergo change, an MES can help manufacturers stay agile.
2. Analytics software turns raw production data into useful insights that can help employees solve their biggest challenges. Predictive analytics software, for example, can collect data from critical assets like mixers, extruders and tire-building machines to learn the patterns that precede equipment failures.
3. Digital twins provide a dynamic digital replica of a tire and vehicle system across its lifecycle that uses comprehensive data, analytics, simulations and emulations. One $6.9bn tire producer uses AI to bring together real-world data on raw materials with advanced analytical data to enable more accurately predict the properties of compounded rubber before use – thereby accelerating the development of high-performance tires.
4. To enhance equipment reliability, Rockwell has worked with major tire and rubber brands to analyse their production environments and understand how corrosion impacts electronics in industrial control system products. The resulting installation guidance, hardened control solutions, and first-of-its-kind corrosion test protocol for tire and rubber environments can help producers improve uptime and stay productive.
