Data-driven insights will help local authorities prioritise infrastructure projects
Clermont-Ferrand, France – Michelin and US mobility and data analytics startup Arity have joined forces to develop data-powered solutions that can help improve road safety across the US.
As part of the project, the two partners will work with local transportation departments and city authorities and provide them with data-driven insights which will contribute to infrastructure optimisation and project prioritisation, Michelin announced 6 May.
The collaboration will combine Michelin’s Driving Data to Intelligence (DDI) technology, which involves driving behaviour analysis, with Arity’s database of driving behaviour data collected from nearly 100 million consumer connections.
Michelin will then analyse “billions of datapoints” to isolate near-miss events and atypical behaviours caused by or attributed to road infrastructure.
The resulting insights will facilitate decision-making for transport authorities when planning infrastructure programmes, Michelin said.
Founded by US insurance company Allstate in 2016, Arity is a technology company that analyses “billions of miles of driving data” to generate insights and scores.
The data access enables the company to identify opportunities for the improvement of road safety and overall efficiency, said Gary Hallgren, president of Arity.
Michelin, for its turn, will capitalise on its driver behaviour knowledge and apply algorithms built with its European road management partners.
“This deep data science approach built on top of Arity’s data is key to create solutions that contribute to safer mobility,” said Ralph Dimenna, VP Michelin Services and Solutions.
