Sixth unit increases production capacity at Canadian company’s site by 20%
Medicine Hat, Canada – Cancarb Ltd has commissioned a sixth unit at its thermal carbon black production facility in Medicine Hat, Alberta, the company announced 22 Feb.
Designed to produce up to 9 kilotonnes per annum (ktpa), the facility brings the site’s capacity for Cancarb’s Thermax branded products to 54ktpa.
The project provides Cancarb with “an additional capacity to serve our global customer base,” commented Jerimy Chisholm, project manager.
The new unit “gives us significant operational flexibility to maintain our other five units while pursuing new growth,” added Chisholm.
Cancarb, part of Tokai Carbon Group, is focused on the production of thermal carbon black, employing around 80 at its Medicine Hat production base.
Thermal carbon black is derived from thermal decomposition of natural gas. The product is widely used in tire and rubber parts applications, where it offers good mixing, processing and physical properties.
