Michelin claims sustainability advance with MotoE tires

Paris – Michelin has claimed new grounds with the supply of a range of sustainable tires, featuring bio-sourced and regenerated materials, for the 2020 FIM MotoE World Cup.

The Michelin Slick MotoE tires, said the French manufacturer in a 9 Dec release, employ compounds that incorporate ‘sustainable materials while continuing to deliver top performance.’

According to Michelin, the tires delivered “promising results” during the series, signalling the emergence of increasingly environmentally-respectful solutions.

Michelin did not offer further details on the compounds or the technologies applied to develop the tires.

“This sort of work dovetails perfectly with the group’s strategy and is a concrete example of how motorsport can serve as a powerful laboratory in the interest of sustainable mobility,” said Matthieu Bonardel, Michelin motorsport director.

Michelin said it sees the series as a road-tier development ‘high-tech lab’, where it gradually increases the proportion of regenerated materials and biomaterials used in the production of its MotoE tires.

The manufacturer said it made “real progress” in terms of both its understanding of tire constructions and the properties of the materials it employs while developing the tires for MotoE bikes.
