Facility will be built on former CEAT site near Pirelli's Settimo production plant
Milan, Italy - Pirelli & C. SpA is strengthening its logistics operations through the construction of a tire warehouse to serve its industrial hub at Settimo Torinese, in western Italy.
The project, to be carried out in partnership with global investment platform BentallGreenOak and general contractor GSE Italia, will entail the redevelopment a former CEAT factory near Pirelli’s industrial hub, the tire maker announced 3 Dec.
The 50,000-square-metre “LEED Gold certified” warehouse will be leased to Pirelli for 15 years, allowing the tier maker to manage flow of tires produced at the Settimo facility “with greater effectiveness and efficiency.”
Until today, tires manufactured at the Settimo Torinese hub have been stored at a site in the province of Novara, more than 80km away from the facility.
Set for completion in 2021, the new warehouse will be “highly innovative” and will bring Pirelli closer to car makers and export clients.
In the meantime, the warehouse in San Pietro Mosezzo, Novara, will be further ‘specialised’ to support clients in the Italian market.
“With the greater efficiencies in logistics, Pirelli will be able to reduce costs and achieve significant improvements in terms of sustainability,” the tire maker said.
The proximity of the warehouse to the production centre will also result in the reduction of CO2 emissions linked to the transfer of tires.
