JSR, Arlanxeo, Isogran also among new entrants in revised Elastomers for Sustainability Top 10
London – ExxonMobil’s development of a new speciality elastomer to advance the performance tire innerliners has come out on top in the first ever revision of ERJ’s Elastomers for Sustainability (E4S) rankings.
The E4S judging panel put the US group’s project just ahead of those from two other new entrants: JSR – featuring unique polymerisation and hydrogenation technology – and
Arlanxeo’s impressive work in the field of bio-EPDM compounds.
First launched in June, the E4S programme is intended to recognise projects with potential to significantly enhance the environmental profile of the elastomers/rubber sector – and its end-user industries.
To maintain position in the E4S rankings, entrants are required to provide updates showing progress with technical and/or commercial aspects of a project.
The associated scoring system meant that some previous entrants dropped down or even out of the Top 10 – making way for new entries, also including the Kordsa/Continental Cokoon tire cord adhesive programme and Isogran’s rice-husk silica project.
Another new entry was ‘ISCC certification of synthetic rubber production’ from Trinseo, which also maintained an existing Top 10 ranking for its work around the development of advanced functionalised S-SBR grades.
Also showing staying power from the inaugural Top 10 rankings were: ETB with updates on its bioethanol-to-butadiene process; and Continental, which has expanded its eco-hose project to now also encompass bio-based TPV materials.
