Goodyear moving niche car tire production from Luxembourg plant

Colmar-Berg, Luxembourg – Goodyear is planning to redeploy the low-volume passenger tire portfolio produced at its manufacturing site in Colmar-Berg to other plants across Europe, the tire maker has announced.

The move will allow Goodyear to “significantly reduce production cost of those tires, ensure profitability of the portfolio and secure competitiveness in this extremely challenging environment,” a company spokeswoman said in a written statement to ERJ.

The tire maker has already started the consultation and negotiation process on a job protection plan.

Goodyear aims to redeploy all the 100 people who will be affected by the decision within its facilities in Luxembourg, including its new production factory in Dudelange, the spokeswoman said 30 Nov.

Subject to the consultation process, it expects to finalise the transfer of the production over a 12- to 18-month time span, according to the spokeswoman. 

During the transition period, Goodyear expects to continue ‘low-volume’ tire production at the facility.

Goodyear manufactures ‘niche’ tires for luxury cars, in limited quantities, at the Colmar-Berg site.

The facility also manufactures truck and bus as well as earthmover tires and is home to Goodyear’s Innovation Centre, where the company develops prototypes for the European and Asian markets.
