Price change to take effect as of 1 Jan 2021, subject to terms of contracts
Houston, Texas – Kraton Corp has announced a general price increase for tall oil fatty acids (TOFA), which can, among other applications, be used in the rubber and tire industry.
In an 18 Nov statement, the US chemicals supplier said the price hike of up to 10% would take effect as of 1 Jan 2021, subject to the terms of any applicable contracts.
The polymer supplier did not elaborate on the reasons behind the price hike.
TOFA derivatives are used as plasticisers in rubber to aid in compounding, according to Kraton. TOFA derivatised with a poly alcohol, for instance, can be used as a plasticiser for rubber to prevent the build-up of electrostatic charges. TOFA, TOFA amides, and TOFA metallic salts can be used as release aids.
