The decision follows a new feedstock supply agreement, according to CEO Frank Bozich
Berwyn, Pennsylvania – Trinseo SA has decided to continue operating a styrene monomer production plant in Boehlen, in eastern Germany, according to president and CEO Frank Bozich.
“After a thorough evaluation, we have made the decision to continue operating the plant,” said Bozich in a third quarter earnings call 5 Nov.
The decision comes on the back of a new feedstock supply agreement, which according to Bozich, will “significantly improve” the competitiveness of the 300 kilotonnes per annum (ktpa) plant and provide for greater operational flexibility.
Trinseo Deutschland initiated a consultation process with employee representatives to review the future of the plant in March.
At the time, Trinseo said the Boehlen site’s average production over the past three years has been at the 200ktpa mark, due to several factors, including upstream supply issues.
In 2019, production at the unit was 150ktpa, reflecting some unplanned outages, according to Trinseo.
