Tire shipment made to new local distributor Southern Tire Mart
Clinton, Mississippi – Continental AG's truck tire plant in Clinton has shipped its first load of tires to new local independent dealer Southern Tire Mart to celebrate their partnership.
In a 12 Oct statement, the companies said the gesture honoured their business relationship while supporting their pledge to create “good jobs” for local workers and revive local economy.
Continental staged a ceremonial grand opening in October last year for its $1.4 billion (€1.26 billion) truck plant in Clinton, saying production was scheduled for early 2020.
Spanning 840,000-sq.-ft. the plant is projected to produce 750,000 truck and bus tires annually in the first phase.
The full projected employment of 2,500 won't be reached until 2028.
The factory is Conti's third tire plant in the US and second with truck tire capacity. Its others are in Mount Vernon, Illinois., and Sumter, South Carolina.
