Brussels - Bridgestone Europe has appointed Mete Ekin, formerly regional managing director Middle East and Africa, to the position of VP Bridgestone emerging markets, effective 1 Oct.
In the newly created position, Ekin will oversee ‘emerging markets’ including Bridgestone EMEA’s businesses in Africa, the Middle East, and Russia, the Japanese tire maker announced 1 Oct.
The move aims to ensure dedicated support to "the important and growing markets" and align the regions’ activities with the strategic direction of becoming “a leader in mobility solutions.”
Ekin, said Bridgestone, was selected for the position due to his earlier experience with the management of Middle East and South Africa and the integration into Bridgestone EMEA and his deep knowledge of the tire market.
In his new role, Ekin will be reporting to Bridgestone EMEA CEO, Paolo Ferrari.
Managing director Bridgestone CIS region, Jeff Glover; managing director Bridgestone South Africa, Jacques Fourie; and Ekin’s successor, the managing director for the Middle East and Africa, will all report to Ekin.
“Russia, South Africa, and the Middle East are all huge markets for Bridgestone with massive potential, and we can all benefit from each other’s experience,” said Ekin as he took on the new role.
