Waterford, New York – Momentive Performance Materials Inc. will introduce new silicone technologies, including a new self-bonding liquid silicone rubber (LSR), during K 2019 rubber & plastic trade show in October.
On display will be Momentive’s complete portfolio of Silopren LSR, including the new self-bonding Silopren LSR 27x9 family which offers primer-less adhesion to PC, PBT and copolyester substrates in commercial hard-soft combinations.
The product addresses the rising demands for hard-soft designs, helps achieve the bonding between silicone and thermoplastics and reduces assembly steps, Momentive announced 5 Aug.
At K, the company will demonstrate live a two-component moulding cell to manufacture an innovative ‘butterfly’ smartphone-holder prototype.
This cell will overmould a plastic frame, based on Covestro’s Apec 1745 polycarbonate, directly in a second shot with the new Silopren LSR 2759 from Momentive.
The result will be a smartphone-holder with “excellent” primer-less adhesion between the PC and silicone rubber, which is designed to be attached to a car´s ventilation flap, Momentive said.
The entire demo design, set up and implementation will be provided by Elmet, which also built the two-shot mould, automation and LSR dosing system TOP 5000 P.
Setup will be implemented on a two-component injection moulding ‘SmartPower 120’ machine and robot from Wittmann-Battenfeld.
K 2019 will take place 16-23 Oct in Duesseldorf, Germany
