Burton-upon-Trent, UK – Pirelli UK Tyres Ltd has undertaken a “significant investment programme" targeted at the evolution of its UK manufacturing site in Carlisle, northwestern England.
The programme is focused on manufacturing processes in line with the Pirelli Group’s premium product strategy, said Pirelli UK in its 2018 annual report published in May.
Pirelli declined to further comment on the programme when contacted by ERJ.
Local press have reported that Pirelli is planning to expand its production site in Carlisle with potentially new job opportunities on the horizon.
In a 30 March report, the Cumberland News & Star stated that Carlisle City Council had approved plans for a 2,510 square metre expansion to the Pirelli manufacturing site.
“Papers submitted with the planning application state that will bring an extra 20 full-time jobs to the factory,” the report added.
With a capacity to manufacture 10,000 units per day, the Carlisle factory has been described by Pirelli as "a centre of excellence" for SUV tires, with a focus on the premium and prestige segments.
Pirelli celebrated the 50th anniversary of its Carlisle plant in April this year in the presence of the UK's Prince of Wales.
