Tokyo – Sumitomo Chemical has set up a ‘human rights policy’ and an associated committee to promote human rights in a bid to step up its sustainability efforts.
“Sumitomo Chemical attaches paramount importance to ‘respecting human rights’ as the foundation for the company to make its business sustainable,” the Japanese chemicals company said in a statement 18 June.
Sumitomo Chemical said it will be addressing human rights issues within the company as well as across the value chain through the established committee.
“[The] Committee… formulates and executes human rights-related measures from group-wide perspectives and in an integrated manner,” the company added.
