Beijing – In an escalation of trade disputes between China and the US, the Chinese Ministry of Finance has announced plans to levy tariffs on some $60 billion (€53.5 billion) worth of US goods effective 1 June.
The move is in reaction to a 10-May decision by the Trump administration to raise import tariffs on some $200 billion worth of Chinese goods - including tires and other automotive components to - 25%.
In a 13 May statement, the Chinese ministry said the tariffs were in response to "US unilateralism and trade protectionism."
The Trump administration originally imposed 10% tariffs on the targeted goods in September 2018.
