Ulvila, Finland – Finnish automation and robotic tire-handling specialist Cimcorp Oy is set to open a new location in Chennai, India, in June, to serve Asian customers “better and faster”.
The move is in response to growing demand for automation in India’s tire industry, said Cimcorp in a 26 March statement.
“The decision to expand our presence into India is a logical step at this point,” explained to Masatoshi Wakabayashi, CEO at Cimcorp.
The Chennai facility, Wakabayashi went on to say, will serve as Cimcorp’s “customer support location” for Indian clients.
Pekka Natri will lead Cimcorp’s operations in India and is currently working on recruiting specialists for the company’s Indian team.
In a written statement to ERJ, Cimcorp CEO Wakabayashi said the company was not planning to produce machinery in India "at the moment".
"The people we are hiring will be software and service engineers that work in the projects that we have in India," the statement noted 28 March.
Cimcorp did not disclose the investment amount in its Indian location.
