Trelleborg, Sweden – Trelleborg AB is set to start construction on an expansion plan at its tire production facility in Otrokovice, Czechia ‘shortly’, according to a company spokeswoman.
“We recently got approval from the local authorities to start building and the construction work will start within short,” communications manager Karin Larsson said in a 13 March statement to ERJ.
The company needs higher capacity utilisation for its radial agricultural tires and OTR tires, said Larsson but did not elaborate further.
Trelleborg took over the Otrokovice plant as part of its 2016 acquisition of Czech-based CGS Holding and its Mitas tire operations.
Paolo Pompei, president of Trelleborg Wheel Systems unveiled the expansion plan in June last year, saying it would improve processes at the plant while increasing capacity and product offerings.
In her statement to ERJ, Larsson also stated that another expansion project at Trelleborg’s tire production facility in RUma, Serbia was “basically completed.”
“Here we are now manufacturing all our tire brands; Trelleborg, Mitas, Maximo and Cultor and that is in fact the only facility that does so,” she noted.
Trelleborg had previously announced that the Ruma expansion would increase capacity by 50% at the facility.
