Ferrara, Italy - Celanese Corp. has increased production capacity for Pibiflex and Riteflex thermoplastic co-polyester elastomers (TPC-ETs) at its Donegani facility in Ferrara.
The expansion project included the addition of a solid-state polymerisation unit at the facility, which started up successfully in September 2018, Celanese said 5 March.
The Dallas-based chemicals company also expects to further expand the production capacity of the unit by adding another polymerisation line, which is to be completed in the next 15 to 18 months.
The move, said Celanese, is to support “the continued growth of its global engineered materials business.”
TPC-ETs are block co-polymers with high elastomeric properties.
They combine characteristics of vulcanised rubber with the easy processability of thermoplastics for toughness, tear and flex fatigue resistance over a wide temperature range.
