Report: Michelin CEO in running to become Renault boss

Paris - Michelin CEO Jean-Dominique Senard is reportedly favoured to become the next head of Renault, Bloomberg said 18 Jan.

According to the report, Senard has the backing of the French government to take the helm at Renault, which is majority-owned by the state.

If appointed, Senard could temporarily hold both the CEO and chairman positions until Renault holds a shareholder meeting, the report added.

He will be replacing CEO Carlos Ghosn, who served as the CEO of Nissan and Renault and is currently in detention in Japan. He has been charged with receiving “improper payment” as the CEO of Nissan.

Senard has served as the Michelin CEO since 2012 but notified the tire maker that he did not intend to stand for re-election in 2019, ERJ reported in February last year.

The Michelin Group has recommended Florent Menegaux, senior executive vice president and chief operating officer, to succeed Senard later this year.
