JK Tyre launches Internet of Things platform

New Delhi – JK Tyre & Industries Ltd has implemented an industrial internet of things (IoT) platform from US-based Altizon Systems at one of its tire manufacturing plants.

The move is part of a “digital transformation” to enhance visibility and predictability across the manufacturing value-chain, JK Tyre said in a 17 Dec release.

Altizon’s Datonis ‘manufacturing intelligence platform’ will help improve asset-utilisation and reduce conversion-cost per unit of production, the tire maker added.

JK Tyre did not specify at which plant it had implemented the technology, but said the platform had enabled it to “significantly reduce” repair-times, unplanned downtime, energy costs and cost of spares, as well as raising productivity.

“We are among the early adopters of Industrial IoT in the tire industry and see great value in digitising our plants,” said Anil Makkar, manufacturing director, JK Tyre.

The company, added Makkar, is now ‘scaling’ the technology to a second plant and plans to extend it to other manufacturing units.

JK Tyre has nine production plants across India with three in Mysore, Karnataka; three in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, and one in each Kankroli, Rajasthan; Chennai, Tamil Nadu and Banmore, Madhya Pradesh.
