BMW taps Bridgestone for new electric hybrid
ERJ staff report (PR)

Tokyo – Bridgestone has been chosen as exclusive supplier to the BMW i8 electric hybrid vehicle – following on from the tire maker’s selection as exclusive development partner for the electric BMW i3.
The company said its existing Potenza S001 sports tire and a specially developed tire, were recently approved for fitment on the i8. Several combinations of summer sizes and patterns have been approved, each linked to a specific tire specification. A winter tire option is also envisaged.
“Delivering true sports performance while still meeting the strict fuel and energy consumption demands of this landmark vehicle has been a tough but rewarding challenge,” said Jake Rønsholt, MD of the consumer business unit at Bridgestone Europe.
